2024 DIII wrestling championships: Schedule, updates

The 2024 DIII wrestling championship begins with regionals from March 1-2 or March 2-3 and continues through to the national championship from March 15-16 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, at the La Crosse Center. DIII qualifiers are set to be released on Monday, March 4 followed by a bracket release on Tuesday, March 12.

The Championships Committee has allocated 180 participants for the championships by selecting from qualifiers in each region. Each qualifying tournament will qualify its champion, second-place finisher and third-place finisher from each weight class with no at-large qualifiers. From there, each student-athlete will be seeded by their win-loss record at the qualifying tournaments.

  • Northeast Regional | WPI in Worcester, Pennsylvania

Finals

Friday, March 15

  • Noon | Session One
    Preliminary Rounds One and Two (Six mats) Consolation First (Six mats)
  • 7 p.m. | Session Two
    Championships Quarterfinals (Three mats) Consolation Second and Third Rounds (Three mats)

Saturday, March 16

  • 11 a.m. | Session Three
    Championships Semifinals (Two mats) and Consolation Quarterfinals (Two mats)
    Consolation Semifinals (Four mats)
    Consolation matches for 3rd, 5th and 7th places (Three mats)
  • 8 p.m. | Session Four
    Championship finals (one mat)

Each championship event is conducted by 10 weight classes — 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197 and heavyweight (183-285 lbs). The top eight seeded wrestlers will be placed in the bracket according to their seed. The remaining ten wrestlers will be drawn randomly.

DIII wrestling championship history 

The DIII wrestling national championship dates back to 1974, skipping 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19, with the first-ever championship trophy going to Wilkes. Wartburg holds 15 national titles — being coined as the winningest team in championship history. Augsburg College comes in second with a total of 14 national titles.

Augsburg was crowned the 2023 national champion after defeating Wartburg, 101-66.5. Below is a list of all DIII wrestling champs since 1974.
