Watch | Australian toddler flaunts batting prowess after U19 team’s World Cup win: Gen alpha already ready to rule

There is an old saying that ‘age is just a number’. Virat Kohli once said that he picked up a cricket bat at the age of 4 and his father used to play with him. Fast-forward 31 years, he emerged as a star batter for India across formats and made a mark for himself on the global stage.

A 3-year-old toddler from Australia, named Hugo, seemed to be following the legacy.

While it would be difficult to find how a 4-year-old Kohli would have batted. Thanks to the emergence of social media, a grown-up Hugo would be able to see how he batted when he was just 3. The toddler has an Instagram account where he posts his batting videos.

“Documenting my life, love and progress through sport. I am Hugo, I am 3 years old and I love sports,” Hugo’s Instagram bio said.

The flare and swing in his batting style looked spectacular as he launched every ball that was bowled to him out of the park. In one of his viral videos, he celebrated scoring fifty by taking his little hat off and raising the bat. In the video, he did every act that a senior batter would do at the crease. The little star was not only dealing in sixes but also completed a hard-fought single and laid flat on the ground.

In another video, Hugo flaunted his batting skills and this time, he took over the all-rounder’s role. As he had no one to bowl at him, the toddler took the bowler’s job himself and launched his own deliveries for huge sixes. While the toddler still has a long way to go, the Australian gen alpha also looks ready to conquer the cricketing world.

THE AUSTRALIAN DOMINATION

Australia’s U19 team won their 4th World Cup title by defeating India in the final on February 11, Sunday, in Benoni. The Australians defeated the Indian side by 79 runs to become the champions. Earlier in November 2023, the senior men’s team, led by Pat Cummins, became the 6-time World Champion by winning the ODI World Cup. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, was yet again at the receiving end of the defeat. In June 2023, the Australians defeated India to win the World Test Championship final. Australia became the only team to possess all the ICC trophies.
