Jasprit Bumrah delivered the best spell by an Indian bowler outside Asia on July 12, 2022, in the first ODI of the England tour at The Oval, which decimated the hosts and laid the foundation of a big win for the visitors.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Bumrah broke the back of England batting with his opening burst of four wickets with the new ball, including the wickets of Jason Roy (0) and Joe Root (0) in his first over of the day.
He then sent back Jonny Bairstow (7) and Liam Livingston (0) before ending his first spell. From the other end, Mohammed Shami ensured no let-off, ending with figures of 3 for 31.
Coming back for his second spell, Bumrah clean-bowled Brydon Carse (15) and David Willey (21) to finish with figures of 6 for 19 and bundle England out for 110 in 25.2 overs.
Bumrah’s complete spell read 7.2 overs, 3 maidens, 19 runs, 6 wickets.
The chase turned out to be an easy meal for Indian openers, led by captain Rohit Sharma‘s 76 not out in 58 balls in an unbroken 114-run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan (31*), which earned India a famous 10-wicket win.
