Scotland ‘not surprised’ topping Group B which has England, Australia: Michael Leask

Scotland’s Michael Leask has claimed that the team isn’t surprised that they’re topping Group B at the moment above both Australia and England at the moment. Scotland, whose first game with England was washed out because of rain, won their match against Namibia on June 6. The two points helped them to leapfrog Australia to the top of the table.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Leask, who was the Player Of The Match, said Scotland has got a great squad and others might say it is a surprise to see them at the top of Group B. The all-rounder said that they have two games left to go and would back themselves to get the win and top the group.

“Look, we’ve got a hell of a squad. It’s no surprise to us. It might be a surprise to some. England will probably say it was a surprise to them the other day that we’re 90 off 10 overs. It doesn’t surprise me. This team’s got great depth. We’ve played together for a number of years, a number of us. We’ve got some new fresh blood so it doesn’t really surprise us that we’re in this position. And yeah, we’ve got two more huge games and why can’t we top the group at the end of it then?” said Leask.

Still a lot of cricket to play

Leask went to show caution, saying that Scotland could end up being at the bottom of the group if they lose the next two games and feels there’s still a lot to play for. He called the match against Oman a huge fixture for the side.

“Yeah, well we’re only top of the table with two games to go. Those two games could put us bottom of the table. So, we’ve still got a lot of cricket to play, there’s still 80 overs of cricket to play and there’s still a lot of other teams to do a lot of other things as well. So, we can only do what we can control. We’ve got Oman on Sunday which is a huge fixture for us and then we go again,” said Leask.

Scotland will face Oman on June 9, before facing Australia a week later.
