Rishabh Pant said that the gamble of bowling Yorkers to the RR batters paid off big time. On Tuesday, DC beat Sanju Samson’s RR by 20 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi and stayed in contention for a berth in the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. The skipper lauded his fast bowlers for churning out the toe-crushers with precision while bowling to the likes of Rovman Powell and Donovan Ferreira.
Mukesh Kumar accounted for the wicket off Powell, who was threatening to tee off after hitting a four and a six. Powell’s wicket in the last over of RR’s run-chase was the final nail in the coffin as DC restricted their opponent to 201 for 8 while defending 222. Pant also heaped praise on Kuldeep Yadav, who got the wicket of debutant Donovan Ferreira.

“In the back end, the way our fast bowlers nailed the Yorkers was great. Lot of positive to take from each match, regardless of whether we win or loss. The thought was always there for Rovman and Dominic. We wanted to take that chance as always, thinking they’d have problems. As always, Kuldeep delivered,” Pant said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
‘Our score was close to par’
After being asked to bat first, DC put up a huge score of 221 for 8 on the back of Jake Fraser-McGurk’s 50 and Abhishek Porel’s 65. Sanju Samson gave the Capitals an almighty scare with an 86-run knock, but the DC bowlers held their nerves under pressure in the death overs.
Pant also explained how DC used Rasikh Salam Dar as their Impact Player to good effect. “I think our score was close to par. I think with the Impact Player we wanted to see how things were going and delay the decision on the Impact Player as much as possible,” Pant added.
In a must-win position, the Capitals will next be up against Faf du Plessis’ RCB on May 12 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
