Novak Djokovic raises hopes of Wimbledon participation: ‘Giving my best to be ready’

24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic raised hopes of returning to action at Wimbledon. The Serb continued to share photos of his training session from London ahead of the grass-court Grand Slam, starting July 1. Djokovic has been out of action since pulling out of the quarter-finals of the French Open earlier in the month.

Djokovic took to social media on Tuesday to share a photo of him training on grass in London with a kneecap. Djokovic suffered a knee injury during his fourth-round win in the French Open. He pulled out of his quarter-final match and underwent surgery to treat the knee issue on June 6. Djokovic’s surgery had led to doubts about his participation in the Wimbledon and the Olympic Games, starting July 26.

However, the Serb seems to be on the right road to recovery. “Good to be back. Giving my best to be ready for Wimbledon,” Djokovic said in a post with a photo of him training on grass.

Novak Djokovic said on Monday that he would compete at Wimbledon only if he is 100 percent ready for the challenge. Djokovic arrived at the All England Club in London on Sunday and began preparations.

“I didn’t come here to play a few rounds. If I know I can play close to my maximum or at maximum, then I’ll play. If not, then I’ll give somebody else a chance to play,” Djokovic told BBC.

“Rehab is going in the right direction every single day, a few percent better and better. That’s what’s giving me hope and encouragement to keep going. I am taking things gradually. I’m not pushing myself yet 100% but I’m hoping that’s going to come in the next few days.”

Novak Djokovic has endured a title-less first half of the 2024 season, having lost in the semi-final of the Australian Open before the injury worry at Roland Garros.

Djokovic reached the final of Wimbledon last year only to lose to Carlos Alcaraz.
