New ICC chairman Jay Shah thanks Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others for their wishes | Cricket News – Times of India

The new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, on Thursday thanked Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and others from the Indian and international cricket fraternity for their congratulatory wishes on his appointment.
As the only candidate nominated to take over from Greg Barclay as the ICC boss, Shah, who is currently the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will assume the role from December onwards.
“Thank you, @imVkohli for your kind wishes. We will work collaboratively towards taking cricket to unparalleled heights, ensuring it remains a global beacon of excellence,” Shah wrote on X (formerly Twitter), thanking the Indian batting legend.

Shah, who has been the BCCI secretary since 2019, was nominated by all the 15 members of the ICC Board and at 35 years old is the youngest ever to head the apex cricket body.
Barclay opted not to pursue a third term.
“Thank you, @ImRo45! Your leadership on and off the field has been instrumental in inspiring the next generation of cricketers. We will strive to make cricket an even greater force worldwide, continuing to elevate the game and its values,” Shah’s thank you message to Rohit read.

Shah’s role as the Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021 has provided him with valuable experience in navigating the complexities of international cricket administration within a diverse region.
“I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council. I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket,” Shah was quoted as saying in an ICC media release.
“We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before,” he added.
Here’s how he thanked all those who congratulated him on his appointment:
