The LaLiga 2024-25 season is well and truly underway with Athletic Bilbao and Getafe playing in the curtain raiser on August 15, Thursday with a thrilling 1-1 draw. Real Betis and Girona had a similar scoreline, while Celta Vigo got the better of Alaves with a 2-1 scoreline. Las Palmas and Sevilla match also ended in a 2-2 draw as the attention now shifts towards the big guns, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The LaLiga giants will be aiming to set the pace early as they will be facing competition from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Girona once again this season. Barcelona will be beginning their campaign first with an away trip to the Mestalla to face Valencia. All the focus will be on Hansi Flick as he makes his LaLiga debut as the Barca boss, with Lamine Yamal expected to be the main man. Barcelona has made just two signings so far in the form of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor and will be hoping for a fast start.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, will start as the favourites once again as they have already added the UEFA Super Cup to their trophy cabinet with a 2-0 win over Atalanta. Superstar signing Kylian Mbappe was on the scoresheet during the game and will be making his LaLiga debut as Los Blancos will face Mallorca on August 18, Sunday. They will miss Eduardo Camavinga for a few months, after he suffered an injury before the UEFA Super Cup clash.
Atletico Madrid will be hoping that their new summer signings will help them challenge Barcelona and Real Madrid. Atletico added Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth in the summer to compensate for the loss of Alvaro Morata to AC Milan. They will have their first match against Villareal on Monday, August 19.
