IPL 2024: Pat Cummins looks to ‘put behind’ KKR’s 8-wicket hammering quickly

Pat Cummins admitted that SRH would look to move on from KKR’s hammering in the Qualifier 1 match of the IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on May 21, Tuesday. KKR became the first team to storm into the final of IPL 2024 after thrashing SRH by 8 wickets. SRH were outperformed by KKR in all the 3 departments and they will look to regroup and rethink their strategies.

Cummins, while speaking to the broadcasters after SRH’s loss, reflected on the team’s disappointing performance.

What went wrong off SRH?

“Yeah, we will try to put this behind quickly. Good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things didn’t quite work out. We weren’t where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn’t do much with the ball. Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket,” Cummins said. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, SRH’s decision backfired as they slumped to 39 for 4 within the powerplay. Mitchell Starc ran through SRH’s dangerous top-order as it was the first time in IPL 2024 when both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were dismissed within single digits. SRH’s batting didn’t get going and despite Cummins’ late finish and Rahul Tripathi’s fifty, SRH could manage only 159 runs on board.

Cummins lauded the KKR bowlers for making full use of the conditions and was looking forward to making use of the 2nd chance. IPL 2024 Full Coverage | IPL 2024 Points Table and Standings | 2024 IPL Full Schedule

“Thought KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and the surface got better. We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on. I think it’s easy to move on, going to a new venue helps. You start again. We have a good body of work too,” Cummins added.

KKR, led by Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer chased the 160-run target with ease as they got a direct ticket to the final. Despite KKR’s hammering, SRH will have another go in order to make it to the final. SRH will face the winner of the eliminator match at Chepauk on May 24, Friday.
