The Super Kings returned to winning ways by hammering ‘freight train’ SunRisers by xxx runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, April 28. It was a timely victory for the defending champions, who returned to the top 4 in the IPL 2024 points table as the race for the playoff spots heats up. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 98 and an all-round bowling effort, led by Tushar Deshpande, highlighted CSK’s dominant performance in front of a packed crowd that rooted for the team in yellow on Sunday.
CSK vs SRH: Highlights | Scorecard
CSK’s record of not losing to the SunRisers at Chepauk remained intact and they also snapped a 2-match losing streak. CSK were handed their first home defeat of the season last week when Marcus Stoinis’s sensational hundred helped LSG chase down 211. However, CSK were in complete control of their defence of 213 on a more sluggish pitch at the iconic venue.
SunRisres, who have posted scores of 287 and 277 in this season while batting first, lost their second successive match after being asked to chase a total in excess of 200. In fact, SunRisers have chased a total in excess of 200 only once in their IPL history.
SunRisers’s winning run was halted by RCB last week when they managed just 171 while chasing 207. On Sunday, SRH could manage only 134 in 18.5 overs as none of their batters managed to get going in one of their most insipid performances with the bat in the season. It was the first time they were bowled out in the season and a 78-run defeat also came as a huge blow to their Net Run Rate.

The Super Kings bowlers were on top as they managed the wet ball in dewy conditions wonderfully well. While Tushar Deshpande picked up 4 wickets, including that of the dangerous Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana picked up 2 wickets each. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja returned to form with a wicket in his miserly four-over spell in which he conceded 22 runs.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma failing for the second successive time hurt SunRisers as the likes of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen buckled under pressure.
