Dale Steyn predicts South Africa star to get sold for Rs 10 Crore in IPL auction

Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn predicted huge bids for the young all-rounder Marco Jansen in the upcoming IPL (Indian Premier League) 2025 mega auction. Notably, the mega auction for the T20 extravaganza is all set to be held on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Jansen has registered himself in the all-rounders category for the auction and has kept his base price at INR 1.25 Crore. The left-arm seamer had a brilliant game in the third T20I against India as he registered figures of 1/28 in four overs and later scored a quick-fire 54 off 17 balls with the help of four fours and five sixes. Jansen registered the second-fastest half-century for South Africa in T20Is off just 16 balls.

Following his scintillating all-round show, Dale Steyn hailed the 24-year-old for his performance and predicted him to get sold for at least INR 10 Crore in the upcoming IPL auction.

“Marco Jansen. A 10 crore player? I’d say so,” wrote Steyn on his X account.

However, Jansen’s heroic ended in vain as South Africa failed to chase down the massive target of 220 and could only reach 208/7 in their allotted 20 overs losing the match by 11 runs. Earlier in the first two matches, Jansen bowled economical spells of 1/24 (4 overs) and 1/25 (4 overs) respectively.

91 players register themselves for IPL 2025 auction

In the IPL, Jansen has played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and has scalped 20 wickets from 21 matches. In IPL 2024, he played just three matches for SRH and picked one wicket. However, given his recent performances, Jansen could well attract huge bids from the ten franchises in the mega auction.

Notably, a total of 1,574 players have registered their names for the IPL auction out of which 409 are form overseas. Most foreign players have registered from South Africa with 91 cricketers set to enter the auction from the rainbow nation. Apart from Jansen, several other big stars such as Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burder, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Faf Du Plessis, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller and Lungi Ngidi among others have also registered themselves for the auction.
