Former Australia pacer Trent Copeland has made scathing attack on the Australian cricket team saying the ODI series loss against South Africa has exposed one too many holes in the squad.
Australia won the opening two matches convincingly but lost three on the trot to lose the series 2-3. The last three games were one-sided as they lost it by more than 100 runs in each one of them.
Copeland pointed out the alarming factors in the team and questioned the performance of all-rounders Cameron Green and Marcus Stoinis during the series, who in his view failed to seal their spot in the playing XI.
“I was hoping in these matches, we would get one of Cameron Green or Marcus Stoinis stick their head above water and say ‘you have to pick me’. I’d say it’s still Marcus Stoinis to go with a returning Glenn Maxwell, with Mitchell Marsh as the all-rounders in that lineup,” Copeland told SEN1170 Breakfast.
Copeland also raised concern over the selection of Trent Copeland in the ODI squad as a back up.

“There’s some alarming factors here. Josh Inglis is there as the reserve batter for the World Cup, but he’s also a backup wicketkeeper. He’s got another duck and hasn’t played as the reserve keeper a lot on tours. He misses all the domestic summer and hasn’t had a lot of cricket.
“Now he is the reserve batter; if anything goes wrong for Australia in the World Cup, …say Mitch Marsh gets injured, he’s the man relied upon to come in and make an impact,” he said.
Australia will play a three match ODI series against India, starting from September 22 in Mohali.
