No. 16 Iowa upsets No. 3 Ohio State in a top-25 field hockey showdown

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The 16th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team dominated No. 3 Ohio State, 3-0, on Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field.

Both offenses were held in check in the first half.

The Hawkeyes got on the board with Alex Wesneski‘s unassisted goal at 34:20 in the third quarter, coming from a steal in the backfield with the shot finding the lower left corner of the goal.

Iowa continued to to control the game in the third quarter with Lieve van Kessel scoring an unassisted goal at 40:27, rebounding the ball in after an Ohio State save.

The Hawkeyes secured their win at 59:01 in the fourth quarter after an empty net goal from Dionne van Aalsum, assisted by Rachel Herbine.

Ohio State outshot Iowa, 11-to-8 and had six penalty corners to Iowa’s four. Mia Magnotta had five saves for Iowa.
