The Roughnecks open the 2023-24 season on the road Dec. 2 against Rochester Knighthawks during the NLL Face Off weekend (5 p.m., TSN Direct).

The Home Opener Party is set for Saturday, Dec. 30, against the Las Vegas Desert Dogs on WestJet Field at Scotiabank Saddledome (7 p.m., TSN Direct).

New this season, the NLL has removed the East and West conferences and restructured to a single table ‘unified standings’, in which teams are ranked regardless of geography. Scheduling will be rooted in competitive equitability and schedule parity, with each team playing every other team once, plus four additional ‘flex’ games that preserve established rivalries and fan interest.

This change will see the Roughnecks play many new faces at home on WestJet Field, including the New York Riptide on Feb. 3 and the Albany Firewolves on March 22. The Calgary club meets the Toronto Rock, Philadelphia Wings, San Diego Seals and Saskatchewan Rush twice each, with one game played at home and one away against each of those foes.

The schedule includes one doubleheader weekend for the Roughnecks — on Feb. 2-3 at home against the Riptide and the Rock, respectively. The Riggers also play a home-and-home weekend against the rival Rush, hosting them on April 5 before travelling for the rematch in Saskatoon the following day.

A calendar highlight for Roughnecks fans will be Friday, March 15, when the Riggers host the Seals for the annual St Patrick’s Day Party. Additional regular-season party promotions are forthcoming in a few weeks.
