Letters, Sept. 29, 2023: ‘Playing right into Putin’s hands’

Article content

Putin used the excuse he invaded Ukraine to denazify the country. Now that the Canadian government has become embroiled in this Nazi fiasco, does Canada move to the top of Putin’s list of countries to denazify? Should be an easy victory for Putin considering how the Liberals have all but eliminated military spending. What an embarrassment.

JOE JOHNS

(We have handed Putin a propaganda victory. It’s pathetic)

Why was he here?

Regarding Yaroslav Hunka being allowed into the House of Commons, how was he allowed into Canada in the first place?

GUENTER DRAUDT

(That is a long, complicated response)

Why didn’t they check?

I have always been a proud Canadian until now. Remember when if a Canadian was travelling and displayed a Canadian flag in any way they were special? Now we are the laughingstock after this last happening in the House of Commons. I can imagine how anyone who was involved in the Second World War felt because I know the horror I felt just knowing such a person was recognized as not only a Ukrainian hero but a Canadian one as well. Do people even know who the Allies in that war were? As a family, we missed seven Christmases without three brothers being overseas and our father in the Vet Guard all over Canada at POW camps. That was nothing when I think of what the death camp survivors must think having this person saluted with a standing ovation. Regardless of who brought this person to be recognized as a hero, why weren’t his credentials investigated? With all this happening on top of the India accusations, on top of the many other goofs of Justin Trudeau, you would think he would, instead of thinking of himself, think of the country he represents and step down before something else turns up. I will never be sorry I quit school at 15 to work in a factory, replacing someone fighting against Hitler and the Nazis. I hope before I pass on, I will once again be a proud Canadian.

A. HESLIN

(The Liberals under Justin Trudeau have embarrassed all Canadians. The global humiliation we are facing will not soon be forgotten)

Out of touch

It seems apparent Justin Trudeau is out of touch with rising food prices and the resulting financial burden that creates for many Canadian families. Not to defend his ignorance, but it could be rooted in the fact our trust-fund PM has likely never had to purchase groceries in his life. Clearly, our delusional PM lives in his own little world that is different than the one that confronts most Canadians on a daily basis. Time to start planning for a winter walk, Justin. Perhaps to the local grocery store.

BOB GRUNDIE

(Such is life in a world where budgets apparently balance themselves.)
