Letters for September 15, 2023: ‘City council has proven things can be done, and they should do more of it.’

City Council on Monday approved changes to the waste bylaw hoping to reduce wildlife feeding on garbage. Seems like a very simple process to make a bylaw change. That being said, why is it impossible to change the bylaw allowing the City (EnMax) to continuously charge for Waste Bin Services regardless if a bin was off loaded or not. Throughout the course of a year a bin may not get off loaded for a month or more, but the charge is still applied. I inquired about this and was advised that every bin has a ” chip” installed, but not one waste pickup truck has a “reader” installed. If a “reader” was installed citizens of Calgary would only get charged for those occasions when their bin was off loaded.

(Sounds like an easy fix.)

Only for the polls

Mr. PM, it’s too little too late. Why does it take a plunge in pole popularity to motivate your apparent action? Why is old inaction presented as new promises of action? There is no substance in the office of the PM. Only, and always, just words. The presence of bobbleheads in the background does not offer any help. When will the Liberal party finally realize they are backing a loser?

GEORGE EWERT

(We will see if he gets a nice farewell from them before the next election. It seems they can count on losing if they don’t.)

Canada wake up

The newcomers in our country will only know that they will live all their lives in an apartment and not in houses, they will pay very high prices for food and transportation and they will remain under beck and call of the government. As you are new in this country, you have nothing to compare with, so you will be so thankful that you have a place.

CHAMPAK BHAUMUK

(It is a sad state many find our country in right now.)

Just no hope

There is no affordable housing and no amount of political B.S. that comes from the mouths of politicians will make a difference. For example, how many people could afford to simply purchase a home with an income of twenty dollars an hour? Homelessness is the future for many Canadians.

J.D. ROUND

(We need to make some big changes to keep Canadians safely housed.)
