‘They don’t know the rule’: Ashwin reacts to controversial moment in TNPL match | Cricket News – Times of India

Reacting to the incident during a Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) match, veteran India player Ravichandran Ashwin, who was warned by the bowler for leaving his crease early, voiced his opinion in reply to a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Ashwin himself has been involved as a bowler in a few controversial incidents around ‘Mankading‘, where a bowler tries to run out the batsman, who is leaving the crease early, before completing his delivery stride.

However, while on the crease as a batsman for Dindigul Dragons against Nellai Royal Kings in the TNPL match on Sunday, Ashwin was at the receiving end of it.

In reply to a post by a user on ‘X’, which said that Ashwin would have been out if the bowler had removed the bails, the bowling all-rounder commented: “They don’t know the rule”.
Ashwin’s response included an image of the incident as well as screenshot of the law that governs the run-out dismissal in such fashion.

Law 8.3 of the rules related to the a non-striker leaving the crease early states “at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be run out if he/she is out of his/her ground.”
The said incident happened in the 15th over of the match when Ashwin was backing up at the non-striker’s end and the bowler stopped midway in his run-up to warn him about prematurely leaving the crease.
Replays showed that Ashwin’s bat was inside the crease initially when the bowler halted his action but slid past to be just on the line before he realised and went back inside the crease.
