Shubman Gill unlikely to be ready for Pakistan clash in World Cup | Cricket News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Shubman Gill may be in a race against time to be fit for India’s game against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14. According to sources, his platelet count had gone down to 90,000 per micro litre following dengue while for a normal male athlete, it should be between 1.5 lakhs to 4.5 lakhs per micro litre of blood.
The doctors in the know feel that though Gill may physically recover and his platelet count may go up in the next two days, it is highly unlikely that he will regain match fitness before October 14.

“The sensible thing will be to ease him back. There is a five-day gap after Pakistan game for India and it might be a better idea to play him against Bangladesh on October 19,” a source said.

Before the game against Australia, India captain Rohit Sharma had said that as much as he wants Gill back, his health is of primary concern and he won’t be rushed back. Given the situation, Gill may have to wait for a few more days for his ODI World Cup debut and India have to make do with Ishan Kishan for the time being.
