NEW DELHI: India, batting first for the first time in this edition of the World Cup, got off to a poor start in their clash against defending champions England in Lucknow on Sunday.
Captain Rohit Sharma played the first over of the match from David Willey as a maiden.
Shubman Gill got off the mark with a superb shot through point for four off Chris Woakes in the next over and then Rohit smashed Willey for a four and 2 sixes in the next over.
With the pitch hardly offering any resistance, India seemed to have got off to a fine start till disaster struck in the next over.
Woakes got the last delivery of his next over come in sharply and it sneaked through Gill’s bat-pad gap to crash into the stumps.
Gill fell for 9, India 26/1 in 4 overs, crowd stunned and silenced.
