ICC World Cup, India vs Bangladesh: Shubman Gill needs just 67 runs to become… | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India’s unbeaten run so far in the ICC World Cup 2023 faces a challenge from neighbours Bangladesh on Thursday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, with opening batsman Shubman Gill in with a chance to become the fastest to score 2000 ODI runs.
Gill recovered in time from dengue to return for the match against Pakistan, after missing the home team’s first two games against Australia and Afghanistan.

Gill scored 16 against Pakistan and will be keen to deliver a big knock against Bangladesh, and if he manages to score 67, he will become the fastest to score 2000 ODI runs.

The record currently stands in the name of former South Africa opener Hashim Amla, who reached the landmark in 40 innings.

The 24-year-old Gill, who has played 36 ODI innings in his career so far, has three innings to beat Amla and go top of the list.
Gill’s current tally of ODI runs stands at 1933 at an astonishing average of 64.43, including 7 hundreds and 9 fifities with a highest score of 208.

An Indian victory against Bangladesh will once again bring the hosts level on points with New Zealand, who regained the top spot on the leaderboard with their win over Afghanistan.

New Zealand are also unbeaten so far in the tournament, having won all four matches they have played.
