NEW DELHI: Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur on Sunday equalled Mithali Raj‘s record for the most runs by an Indian batter in the history of Women’s T20 World Cup, with both legends now sitting atop the list with 726 runs each.
Harmanpreet matched Mithali’s feat by playing an unbeaten 54-run knock which came in 47 balls. However, India still ended up on the losing side after facing a 9-run defeat at the hands of Australia, who posted a fighting total of 151 runs, in a crucial Group A game in Sharjah at the Women’s T20 World Cup.
With this loss, India find themselves in a tough spot to qualify for the semifinals, and they now pin their hopes on arch-rivals Pakistan to beat New Zealand in their final group game to make it to the last four.
Harmanpreet, known for her aggressive and match-winning batting, has consistently delivered for India in crucial games, and this milestone underscores her importance to the team. Her ability to anchor innings while accelerating when needed makes her one of the most dangerous batters in women’s cricket.
