Bangladesh bowler Shoriful Islam misses second Test against Pakistan due to groin injury | Cricket News – Times of India

Bangladesh team for the second Test against Pakistan in Rawalpindi underwent a forced change due to Shoriful Islam’s groin injury. The fast bowler is not participating in the match and has been replaced by fellow pacer Taskin Ahmed in the playing eleven.
Taskin’s inclusion signals his comeback to Test cricket after a gap of one year.
“Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam has a groin strain and could not be considered for selection in the second Test against Pakistan which got underway in Rawalpindi today (Saturday). The left-arm pacer had complained of discomfort in the groin area after the first match and subsequent tests confirmed the injury,” said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in a statement.
According to Bayjedul Islam Khan, the team’s physiotherapist, Shoriful first complained of discomfort at the end of the first Test, in which Bangladesh registered a historic maiden Test win over Pakistan — winning the game by 10 wickets on the fifth day.
“Shoriful underwent an MRI following the first Test and the results show a Grade 1 left adductor strain. Recovery usually takes around 10 days in such cases and he has started his rehab.”
In the first Test, Shoriful showcased his skills by taking three crucial wickets, contributing to Bangladesh’s victory.
Besides that, he also displayed his batting abilities, hitting two sixes in a quick-fire 22 off just 14 deliveries in the first innings.
Shoriful’s injury may leave him unavailable for the upcoming two-Test series against India, which is set to commence on September 19 in Chennai.
Since making his Test debut in 2021, Shoriful has represented Bangladesh in 11 matches, claiming 25 wickets at an average of 33.72.
Bangladesh, who won the toss and opted to field in the second Test against Pakistan, require either a victory or a draw to secure their first-ever Test series win against Pakistan. The start of the match was delayed by a day due to persistent rain in Rawalpindi on Friday, which resulted in the entire first day being washed out.
