NEW DELHI: Swashbuckling keeper-batter Ishan Kishan fired a sizzling 86-ball century against Madhya Pradesh in the ongoing Buchi Babu tournament in Thirunelveli on Friday.
Leading Jharkhand from the front, the skipper was at his brutal best on Day 2, firing the opposition bowlers to all corners of the park as his side ended the day at 277 for 7 batting second.
Coming in at no.6, Ishan began cautiously on his red-ball return, scoring a composed 61-ball half-century. However, after raising his fifty, Ishan went berserk and raised his ton in no time.
With the help of 10 sixes and 5 fours, Ishan smashed 114 off 107 balls and his brutal knock came at a strike rate of 106.54.

Making his first red-ball appearance since his Test debut for India in the tour of West Indies in July 2023, Ishan looked a class apart, mixing caution and aggression seamlessly.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh were bundled out for 225 with Shubham S Kushwah (84) top-scoring for the side.
With the two-Test series against Bangladesh set to commence from September 19 at home, Ishan knock comes as a good headache for the selectors. The squad for the series is yet to be announced.
Ishan will next feature in Duleep Trophy which will be played from September 5-24. The tournament is likely to see other Indian regulars.
Earlier this year, BCCI did not include Ishan in the annual central contracts after he ignored board’s directive to participate in domestic cricket.
Last year, Ishan had taken a mental health break in December and only made his return to action in IPL 2024.
He was then ignored for T20 World Cup and following three white-ball series.
