10K world record: Agnes Ngetich becomes first woman to break the 29-minute barrier – video

Kenya’s Agnes Ngetich became the first woman to run 10 kilometres in under 29 minutes as she won the Valencia Ibercaja road race.

Ngetich clocked a time of 28:46, beating the road world record held by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw by 28 seconds. Her time also bettered the track world record held by another Ethiopian, Letesenbet Gidey.

Following her run, Ngetich said ‘I am so happy. I didn’t expect this world record. I was coming to improve my time’.
