Agnes Tirop’s World Record under threat in Hong Kong – Athletics News

World 10km record will face a serious threat at the Three-Runway System 10km International Race, slated for November 17, 2024 on a flat and fast runway track in Hong Kong.

The race organisers have assembled a strong deep elite field that include the 2017 World Cross Country bronze medallist, Lilian Kasait Rengeruk, who holds the fastest time on paper of 29:32 that she got early this year in Valencia.

The 27 year-old who is also the the 2019 African Games 5000m bronze medallist, will face a still field that includes the reigning African Games 10000m champion Janeth Chepengetich, who holds the second fastest time of 29:55 and Loice Chemnung of 29:57.

Other title contenders include Kenya’s Judy Kemboi of 30:29, Seira Fuwa from Japan of 30:45 and reigning Africa 10,000m champion, Caroline Nyaga.

Ethiopia will have their hopes on Gete Alemayehu Teklemichael and Yalemget Yaregal of respective times 30:53 and 30.54.

This deep field has been put together on an ideal setting for record-breaking performances by the organizers that include the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA).

The organisers have assembled a stellar field with a keen eye on the late Agnes Tirop’s women’s-only world record of 30:01 set three years ago in Germany.
