Alex Kunov was first home in 2:26:24 as the winds of Storm Ashley slowed times and second woman and top W55 Karima Harris noted the “terrible conditions.”
Nevertheless, Harris’ 2:51:00 (2:50:57 chip) went second on the age group all-time listings.

Joe Wigfield took the race in 48:51, as Twelde Menges, Dylan Evans and Finn McNally were also inside the 50-minute mark.
Some runners were late entries following the cancellation of the Great South Run 10-miler at Portsmouth caused by the potential threat from Storm Ashley. That was definitely the case with Verity Ockenden, who asked to run but not be awarded any prizes. So, with her victory, Portsmouth’s loss was the Cabbage Patch’s gain.

Ockenden crossed the line first and was listed in the official results running 55:41 but it was Annabel Gummow’s 56:10 that took the first prize on the day.

BTR WIRRAL 10km, October 13
The BTR Wirral 10km returned last weekend with a boost in numbers and the event saw two course records.
Almost 750 runners took part as Matthew Gawne of Altrincham set a men’s record of 33:52 and Lisa Gawthorne of Vegan Runners a women’s course best of 38:07.

GREAT SOUTH RUN 5km, Portsmouth, Hampshire, October 19
Chris Thompson signed off his running career with an outing in the 5km event, in 14:48, which should have been a prelude to the following day’s 10-mile event, but fears over the incoming Storm Ashley caused the cancellation of the 10.

Eden Marathon (Eden Project)
EDEN PROJECT MARATHON, Cornwall, October 20
This multi-terrain race which starts and finishes at one of Cornwall’s top tourist attractions saw runners soaked with rain during the early stages.
The wet weather also led to parts of the course becoming very boggy, which meant runners who had opted for super-shoes were left skidding around in the mud.
Steve Reynolds from Truro Running Club handled the conditions better than most as he won the marathon for the second year on the trot in just outside three hours with Emily Harrison finishing first woman home.
In the half-marathon, Jacob Landers from Tamar Trotters enjoyed a runaway victory.
