Watch: Deepti Sharma shows sharp reflexes to take impressive catch vs Welsh Fire

Deepti Sharma showed the quality fielder she is during the final of the Hundred Women 2024 on Sunday, August 18. Playing for the London Spirit, the Indian all-rounder took a sharp catch off her own bowling to dismiss Georgia Elwiss of Welsh Fire at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

Deepti flighted one on the off-stump and Elwiss tried to use her feet to hit the bowler down the ground. But Elwiss could not get any timing and ended up hitting the ball straight back to the bowler.

Deepti showed great presence of mind and took an excellent reflex catch with both hands. Elwiss departed after scoring only two runs off six balls.

Deepti had an excellent outing with the ball as the Spirit restricted the Fire to 115 for eight in 20 overs. She finished with decent figures of 20-8-23-1. Earlier, she also took a decent catch to dismiss Sophia Dunkley, helping Tara Norris pick up a crucial wicket.

She also affected the run out of Phoebe Franklin, who failed to make the non-striker’s end after Jess Jonassen tried to take a single. In eight games, Deepti finished the Hundred with eight wickets at an economy rate of 6.85 with a three-wicket haul to show for her efforts.

Prior to the final, Deepti also played some useful knocks for the Spirit. His top score of 46 not out came against the Oval Invincibles earlier this month at the Kennington Oval in London.

Deepti joined the Spirit after playing for India in the Women’s Asia Cup on Sri Lankan soil. Deepti is expected to play a key role for the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is currently scheduled to be held in Bangladesh.
