Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan lead Pakistan to T20 series win over Ireland | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Pakistan secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Ireland in Dublin on Tuesday, clinching the Twenty20 series 2-1. After chasing down 193 runs with 3.1 overs to spare in the previous match to level the series, Pakistan had little trouble overhauling Ireland’s total of 178 on Tuesday, reaching the target with three overs remaining.
Captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan led the charge for Pakistan with a sensational second-wicket partnership of 139 runs.
Babar smashed 75 runs off just 42 balls, while Rizwan clobbered 56 off 38 deliveries. Their aggressive batting display propelled Pakistan towards victory, with successive sixes by Azam Khan sealing the win.
Reflecting on the series, Babar Azam highlighted the importance of the matches as good practice ahead of the T20 World Cup next month.
On the other hand, Ireland got off to a promising start in their innings, with captain Lorcan Tucker and opener Andy Balbirnie stitching together an impressive partnership of 85 runs for the second wicket. Tucker top-scored for Ireland with a blistering 73 off 41 balls, supported by Balbirnie’s 35 runs.
However, Ireland faltered in the face of outstanding death bowling from Pakistan, with Shaheen Shah Afridi leading the charge with figures of 3-14 off four overs.
With the series wrapped up, Pakistan now shift their focus to a four-match T20 series against England, commencing next Tuesday.
