Ranji Trophy Final: Rahane, Iyer, Shaw create special memories for young fans

Mumbai are taking on Vidarbha in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2024. Being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai the Day 1 of the match turned out to be action-packed on Sunday, 10 March.

13 wickets fell in a see-sawing Day 1 of the game. Sent to bat first, Mumbai suffered a middle-order collapse after starting well with the opening pair. However, a tremendous rearguard action from Shardul Thakur saw them reach a respectable 220-run total in their first innings.

After bowling out Mumbai, Vidarbha came out to bat on Day 1 itself and were left in a perilous position losing 3 wickets for just 31 runs in the final session of Day 1.

While the fans were gifted some terrific cricket on the day, Mumbai batters Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Prithvi Shaw made the day of young fans with their kind gesture. On the sidelines of the final match, the India trio signed autographs for young kids, who enjoyed a day out on Sunday at the Ranji Final.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded the video on their social media channels, where the kids can be seen very excited to meet the cricketers.

While the trio enjoyed their time with the kids, Rahane and Shreyas had a woeful time in the crease on Day 1. After Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani’s strong opening start, Mumbai crumbled against the Vidarbha bowlers. Shreyas Iyer lost his wicket against Umesh Yadav – edging a short of good length, harmless ball – to first slip. On the other hand, Rahane did not look composed throughout his 35-ball innings and gifted a catch to mid off.

Prithvi Shaw was the only batter among the trio to look assured in his innings and scored 46 off 63 balls. Shaw got out trying to slog-sweep left arm off-spinner Harsh Dubey, where the ball beat him in flight and crashed into his stumps.

Ahead of Day 1, Mumbai were slightly ahead in the game with their pace trio making life difficult for Vidarbha batters. The Akshay Wadkar team were 193 runs behind Mumbai’s first innings total with 7 wickets in their hands.
